The plot focuses on two female students who drive to one of their family's secluded farmhouse to study for their exams, where a murderer shows up on the night of their arrival.

The story was developed by Wes Craven and Bruce Wagner with a screenplay that included the talents of Frank Darabont. It’s the third installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The film stars Heather Langenkamp, Patricia Arquette, Laurence Fishburne, Priscilla Pointer, Craig Wasson, and Robert Englund as primetime star-maker Freddy Krueger. The music for the film was composed by Angelo Badalamenti of Twin Peaks fame, with a theme song titled “Dream Warriors” performed by the American Heavy Metal band Dokken.
